"Rostelecom" and the Russian developer RED SOFT signed a license agreement on the use of the RED OS operating system (OS). According to the agreement, Rostelecom Group will use the "Server" configuration of RED OS in its corporate systems. The migration to the new OS will start next year and will be completed by the end of 2023.
Compatibility tests of RED OS on Rostelecom's server infrastructure were successfully carried out in October 2020. Positive results confirmed the correctness of run of the Russian operating system on the operator's servers.
"A key component of Rostelecom's IT infrastructure is server operating systems. The use of domestic operating systems is a strategic step in the course of import substitution not only within the company, but also with regard to our customers. It is important for many companies to use domestic technologies that ensure data security and mitigate risks associated with the sanction policy of foreign countries", - Kirill Menshov, Rostelecom's Senior Vice President for Information Technologies, said.
"The transfer of the server group of Russia’s largest digital services and solutions provider to a domestic operating system is an example of how software import substitution can and should be implemented in accordance with current regulations. RED OS is a Russian Linux family operating system for servers and workstations, that provides a universal environment for application software. The product is certified by the FSTEC of Russia (№4060 of 12.01.2019), that confirms its compliance with information security requirements and allows its use in government information systems. RED OS is registered in the Unified Register of Russian Software and Databases of the Ministry of Communications of Russia (No.3751).
